Updates
What has changed on Writer's Grove, newest first.
Writer's Grove 1.0
Version 1.0.0 · September 7, 2026
The first production release. The BETA badge came off writersgrove.net.
Reviews and history
- Readers who rate a chapter can write a review of up to 2,000 characters, edit it, or delete it while keeping the rating. Authors can remove review text on their own chapters.
- A Reading History page in the user menu lists every series you have opened, newest first, with a Continue link or a caught-up note.
Finding stories
- Sixteen genres, one per series. The Genres page lists them with counts, and each genre pages through its series.
- Search and genre pages filter by status, length and the content warnings you hide, and a warning on a series also hides its books and chapters.
Fixes
- Bullet lists in the chapter editor stay bullet lists, links inside chapters are readable, and a username change shows in the menu straight away.
- Thirteen accessibility fixes from a full pass over every page: a clearer focus outline, readable tags and badges, a dark editor theme, Tab moving between fields, named buttons and menus for screen readers, and working Go Back buttons on blocked screens.
- Cover uploads work on the create-a-series and create-a-book forms, replaced covers are deleted, and oversized images are shrunk if an account drops off premium.
Continue reading, classics and reader subscriptions
Version 0.13.25 · September 6, 2026
Releases 0.13.17 to 0.13.25.
For readers
- Continue Reading on the home page, and a Continue Reading button on each series page that takes you to the chapter you stopped on.
- A Classics page with free public-domain novels, linked from the top menu.
- An author's subscription tiers have a proper page at /u/username/tiers with Subscribe buttons, and a Support button on the profile. A Subscriptions page lists what you subscribe to, with a Cancel button for each.
- Series can be marked Ongoing, Complete or on Hiatus, and the Completed Series carousel fills up.
- Profiles can carry up to ten links.
- Followers get an email when an author publishes a new series, book or chapter.
- AI-generated and mature flags carry down from a series or book to the chapters inside it.
- Shared links point at the right address, and signing out of all devices signs the others out.
For authors
- Subscription tier fixes: schedule assignments can be removed, book-level overrides created, plan deletion asks for confirmation, tier renames and deletions are mirrored in Stripe, and the Create New Tier button works.
- Disconnecting Stripe keeps your Stripe account, so reconnecting reuses it.
- Layout fixes on the tiers page, the maintenance countdown and the chapter editor on phones.
Behind the scenes
- Rate limiting on the content delivery network, and the BETA badge shows only on the beta site.
The fix round before launch
Version 0.13.16 · September 5, 2026
Releases 0.13.7 to 0.13.16.
Reading and following
- A Following page lists the authors, series and books you follow.
- Reply to a comment, one level deep.
- Every page has a descriptive title in the browser tab, and error pages look like the rest of the site.
Accounts
- The username picker says as you type whether a name is free.
- Notification preferences moved onto the Edit Profile page, and the newsletter signup fills in your address when you are signed in.
- Your username shows in the phone menu with a link to Following.
Premium
- Premium is on for everyone, with no feature switch, and beta offers the same 30-day trial as the live site.
- Stripe Connect onboarding is live, and a rejection from Stripe comes back with a readable reason.
- Payments made during a maintenance window are applied straight away, and cancelling through Stripe's billing portal shows on your dashboard.
- Author subdomains work on beta, and the dashboard shows the exact address.
Layout and accessibility
- Dashboard buttons and the search box fit a phone screen, the Save Changes button and the chapter editor's branch buttons stay on screen, the text-to-speech panel opens fully, form fields have labels, heading order is right for screen readers, and links use the site colour.
- Cover and avatar uploads: 2 MB on free accounts, 5 MB on premium.
- Open redirects were closed.

Version 0.13.0 · August 12, 2026
- Writer's Grove now runs on AWS behind a content delivery network, so pages and images are served from locations near you.
- Every release is a tagged deploy, with database changes applied automatically as part of it.
- Requests that bypass the content delivery network are rejected.
- A book or series can only be published once it has at least one published chapter.
